Eagle One Espresso Machine: Barista Review with Gwilym Davies
Here we go. We came to learn all about the new EagleOne espresso machine from Victoria Arduino. Gwilym was using all machines, fromSimonelli group for the past decade, so we thought he is the best person to give youa short review from the barista and caf ownerperspective. Probably been about six months.. This videois, not sponsored by Victoria Arduino, but both European Coffee Trip and Gwilym, has a long partnership with the company.. When I first saw it it wasnt actually finished.. It was at the Prague Coffee Festival and we were. There was a bunch of us makingcoffees on it from different roasteries and which is great because the the machines gotput out into the field we hammered them. They were making coffee for all the sort of thousands ofpeople at the Prague Coffee Festival and gave them a really good workout, but first impression … Good fine. I had a good time with the customer. The coffees were tasting good, I didnt feel stressed and, to be honest, I didnt even noticethe machine.. I was excited to use it. The Eagle One anddidnt notice it which its a good sign, because as much as marketing people want to make thesethings really specialtheyre a tool for a barista. Theyre, not gon na make a bad coffee, good, theycant and youre not gon na make wonderful things on this machine. If youre grinders not up to it. So its a tool for me to give something delicious in a really nice joyful funny, nice environment.
Its the experience that were after and its tool to help me give that experience andthats what it did.. I knew it was cute and small and I knew that it was energy. Efficient soit starts up easily and things but yeah couple of other features. I didnt realize.. I didnt realize actually how energy efficient, but its so much more energy efficient, thanmany. Many other machines that Ive been using.. I know one of the nice littlefeatures is this tray the draining tray where the hot water, when its leaving actuallygoes to preheat the water thats coming in to the machine. Brilliant? This is very amusing and itsjust gon na save me pressing a button, so many times. Black Eagle. If you want to flush here, betweenshots you press once then you press twice., If youre, making 500 cups of coffee in aday, maybe less 250 cups of coffee in a day, youre pressing this 250 times 500 times so500 times to make 250 coffees from here.. This suddenly Im pressing this less its faster forme, its better for the button, brilliant and its its mildly amusing, but it does itself. Thisis stainless steel, and this is stainless steel.. One good thing for me: isits so much easier to clean. When I clean in here. This is stainless steel, its its just a little rinseand a wipe and its done.. This drip tray very pretty, but the drip tray onthe Black Eagle is much more practical.. This is very pretty, but it seems to gather water whichis, not good, for even waterproof scales, really because it has holes in it.
. If i was using thisin a coffee shop, there is another one available. I even though this looks so beautiful. I would use the one that has the long thin rails stripes that lets all the water through. Not as pretty but itll make you much faster and you wonthave to be doing this. All the time. Steam wands …. This felt strange to start with, because its so different., The Back Eagleand Aurelia, was a little bit more rough with, but uh yeah theres something a little bitmore delicate, but Ive got used to it.. I think it was just something I needed toget used to and happened really quickly. One more thing about this thing. Its quite pretty. Ill, probably get the name wrong., Oh theres, an espresso machine in the Simonellimuseum. I saw it in 2009, every barista that walked in to the Simonelli little museum. They went quotthat machinequot and it was probably a three group small machine like this. I think it was calledthe, Eureka., Absolutely beautiful, and this this kind of reminds me the sides kinds of remindsme that machine. – And I like this design. This is a design thatdoesnt fit everywhere its specific. When we get we had this and regular Aurelia in here.. Some of the trainees that would come prefer the Aurelia some prefer this and there was definitely a split just like the design of a place that would have the Black Eagle in, but this it fits in moreplaces.
Its a much more adaptable. Design. Now lets. Look a little deeper at thedifferences between Eagle One and Black Eagle. Well discuss. Where would eachespresso machine fit the best. Yeah the Black Eagle is bigger. If I was in avery busy coffee shop, I would use the Black Eagle. Simply because of the scales and the consistency that the scales are gon na, give me. Mythos Black Eagle a very, very calm time, especially if youre throwing in a automatic tamper like the PUQpress. As well gives me muchmore opportunity to calibrate that coffee and communicate to the customers whetherits with my eyes or able to talk., But for a small coffee shop. Youve got to payfor the machine if youve got a slower caf, maybe its not too much trouble to put the scales up on the machine, and maybe you dont need two people working onthe machine, maybe its one person and something if theres often one person on the Machine thedistance from here to here is kinda. As far as my feet go apart, its not very difficult to operate. Yeah, so in a busy coffee shop, I would definitely be putting that in and when Ive got alittle bit more slow times when theres one person on. I would have this., I would even betempted to try with the single group or maybe two single groups, which would make theflow very interesting and Id like to see somebody play around with that and a one group machine, withtwo portafilters and a good grinder is fast.
Things. I forget because its become normal things like timers on grinders. That was not normal when I started that happenedbecause home users and baristas would just cut into them and put their own timerson, and then the manufacturers caught up. The same things I forget about espresso machines. It has an automatic cleaning function. So when you back flush the group heads you can do itautomatically, you can put it in, and itll sort itself out. You dont have to stand there and count for eight seconds, and then your barista friend says quotNo. You have to do it for 10 secondsand then wait for 15quot theres. None of this stupid arguments you just put it in and it go and youcan do one and make coffee on the other one. Brilliant. So you can clean it during the middleof the day or you can start closing it down. Both group heads can have different temperatures, just simple things like that. I always forget, because its become so normalnow with the machines that I use..
